About Me

Welcome to the Wilderness, where I share my thoughts about uncovering the natural state within, how to live in alignment with your true self, and what it means to truly be wild. My name is Josh Racho. While my resume would tell you that I am an aerospace engineer with the Royal Canadian Air Force, my lifestyle, food choices, and attitude rivals the greatest holistic hippies of the world. A native to Kelowna, I moved to Ontario to attend the Royal Military College of Canada and completed two years of pilot training before switching to a new career and securing a move back my beautiful home province with my, then new, wife. Currently, I reside in Comox, British Columbia where I am cultivating a balance between a career in the military and yogic stillness.

This blog functions as both my own outlet for making sense of things, and a resource for those of you who find themselves just beginning a path to healthier living. I started with a simple green smoothie in the morning and over a few years I transitioned to a life impassioned by non-harm. I like to believe that our species is shifting towards awareness, mindfulness, and oneness. What I cook, eat, read, meditate on, listen to, and exercise for is a reflection of this higher belief: as within, so without. My unique point of view is that of a man, in a traditional occupation, in a materialistic world, carving out a more holistic space for himself. Some might think it's bizarre or "non-masculine", but reality of self awareness has nothing to do with that. My body is healthier, my eyes are whiter, my relationships are less toxic, and I am happy; so happy, that I must share with you how I got here and where I am going. Join me to see how a military man takes the path less traveled.
